Metro Bilbao will celebrate its 30th anniversary with the ‘Christmas Train’To mark its 30th birthday and the arrival of the Christmas holidays, Metro Bilbao has organized the ‘Christmas Train’, a free themed trip for children up to 12 years old, in collaboration with BBK and Kutxabank.&nbsp;The activity will take place on Monday, December 22, with a special trip between Kabiezes and San Ignazio, where children can enjoy a magical journey with Olentzero, Mari Domingi, and the galtzagorris. During the trip, which lasts approximately one hour, there will be face painting, mime and magic shows, storytelling, cut-outs, and a txoko to write letters.&nbsp;More than 1,200 places will be available, which will be allocated by prior registration and lottery. Each adult may register with between one and three children. Metro Bilbao will celebrate its 30th anniversary with the 'Christmas Train' 

The Bizkaia Transport Consortium (CTB) is launching a new park-and-ride bicycle parking facility next to Ibarbengoa metro station. This new equipment joins that already in place at other stations in Ansio and Leioa.&nbsp;To access it, you must have a personalized Barik card or personalized Barik mobile. Each person must bring their own lock to secure their bicycle or scooter within the designated area.&nbsp;This service is aimed at those who combine bicycle use with metro transport. Metro Bilbao, in collaboration with the Bizkaia Transport Consortium, has updated the design of its map of connections between different modes of public transport, making it accessible to everyone, with the aim of advancing towards continuous improvement and universal accessibility. To this end, it has collaborated with Puntodis and the ErrazTEA cognitive accessibility team from APNABI Autismo Bizkaia. &nbsp;This is the first and only entity in the Basque Country that has professionals with intellectual disabilities and/or autism with certified training in the accessibility work team, both for adaptation and validation. It is a group of experts in cognitive accessibility, which is the characteristic of environments, processes, activities, goods, products, services, objects or instruments, tools, and devices that allow for easy understanding and communication. This is an essential aspect of guaranteeing the rights of people with intellectual disabilities, but also those with other types of comprehension, language, or cognitive difficulties. &nbsp;This process of study and improvement began at the subway station, analyzing the use of the map. After updating the font type and size to improve readability, and developing new pictograms or symbols for stops and transfers to facilitate understanding of how to use the subway and encourage independent travel, various tests were conducted on size, orientation, and color, taking into account how lines and modes of transport are currently identified. In addition, we also studied how people with visual impairments perceive them, having studied different color and texture combinations, taking into account deviations in color vision, such as color blindness. &nbsp;The new maps feature a legend that shows the meaning of the pictograms on the map on the one hand, and symbols that include important information about the station on the other. These include symbols that highlight physical accessibility at all stations, or the possibility of communicating with Metro Bilbao via intercoms in sign language or spoken language. &nbsp;In addition, the map features Map's Voice technology, an inclusive digital platform that, through a common printed QR code, provides additional information to be read or listened to, also in different languages, including easy reading in Basque and Spanish. &nbsp;

The Bizkaia Transport Consortium (CTB) is launching a new park-and-ride bicycle parking facility next to Ansio metro station in Barakaldo.To access it, you must have a personalized Barik card or personalized Barik mobile. Each person must bring their own lock to secure their bicycle or scooter within the designated area.This service is aimed at those who combine bicycle use with metro transport. Therefore, users must have made at least one metro journey in order to use the bike parking facility. Metro Bilbao has activated the new charging points for electric vehicles that the Bizkaia Transport Consortium (CTB) has installed in the Etxebarri, Leioa and Ibarbengoa park-and-ride parking lots. This initiative makes it easier for users to charge their electric vehicles while using the metro service.&nbsp;There are 3 double recharging points using wall chargers in Etxebarri, 4 double recharging points using floor chargers in Leioa and 4 double recharging points using wall chargers installed on floor -1 in Ibarbengoa. Each of the charging posts has two 22 kW connections, thus offering fast charging of the batteries.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The service is managed through the EVcharge app, available for iOS and Android devices, which can be accessed by scanning a QR code on each post. New charging points for electric vehicles in Etxebarri, Leioa and Ibarbengoa 

From July 1 until December 31, 2025, children under 15 years of age will travel free of charge. On the day they turn 15, the free travel will expire.&nbsp;To benefit from the free travel it is essential to travel with a personalized Barik card (with photo and name). Children under 6 years of age do not need a card.&nbsp; &nbsp;How to obtain a personalized Barik card?&nbsp;It can be requested at any Customer Service Office, located in Bilbao, Ansio, Portugalete, Areeta, Leioa, Durango, Gernika and Sodupe. Metro Bilbao has been recognized with the Special Jury Award at the recent Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Gala organized by Cadena SER Euskadi and Fundación BBK, an event to recognize individuals, companies and organizations that, through their commitment and daily actions, build a better world in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.&nbsp;

This award was presented at the gala held at the Sala BBK in Bilbao, and highlights our cross-cutting contribution to multiple SDGs, a recognition that was received by Eneko Arruebarrena, who highlighted our commitment in all areas that involve moving towards a more sustainable development, from the awareness that we still have a lot to do.&nbsp;

Metrokultura of June 

From June 1st to September 30th, Metro Bilbao will offer uninterrupted train service on the nights of Fridays, Saturdays and holiday eves.&nbsp;

Every Friday and Saturday, as well as the nights of the eve of public holidays, July 24th, July 30th and August 14th, the metro will run all night long.&nbsp;

ALL NIGHT METRO SERVICE ON FRIDAYS, SATURDAYS AND HOLIDAY EVES

On the occasion of the Udaberri festa 2025 concerts, which will take place on Friday, May 30 at Arizgoiti square in Basauri, Metro Bilbao will offer a special service to facilitate mobility.&nbsp;

All trains at the beginning and end of the event will have destination/origin Basauri (from both lines), with the following frequency starting at 23:30:&nbsp;

Udaberri Festa 2025 

Metro Bilbao launches the "Thank you for giving up your seat" initiative with the aim of promoting a more inclusive mobility. This measure seeks to raise awareness among users of the importance of respecting the use of the grey seats on trains, which are intended for people who need them most, including the elderly, people with reduced mobility, people with cognitive disabilities, pregnant women and those travelling with a guide dog (these must go under the seat).&nbsp;

The main objective of this campaign is to remind that grey seats are for those who really need them and seeks to encourage a smoother and more comfortable transfer of seats. To this end, a card with a ribbon has been designed to be worn around the neck and encourage other users to give up their seats in a natural way.&nbsp;

This card can be requested at any Customer Service Office (Ansio, Zazpikaleak/Casco Viejo or Areeta), at the rate of one per person, and will serve to give visibility to the need for a seat, without having to request it verbally. It is important to remember that its possession is not indispensable to use these preferential seats.&nbsp;

THANK YOU FOR GIVING UP YOUR SEAT" INITIATIVE  

On Sunday May 25th on the occasion of the match between Athletic Club and FC Barcelona at 21:00, Metro Bilbao offers a special train service at the start and the end of the match and subsequent Óscar De Marcos´s farewell, thus facilitating mobility.&nbsp;&nbsp;

At the end of the meeting, entry will be allowed exclusively at Santimami/San Mamés, Indautxu and Moyua.  &nbsp;

Note: For security reasons, for approximately 45 minutes before the match (20:15-21:00), the Santimami/San Mamés station can only be used for departures. To access the metro you can go to Indautxu station.  &nbsp;

From 03:00PM trains will not stop at Santimami/San Mamés station. If your origin or destination is this station, use the metro stations Indautxu, Moyua or Deustu as alternative.

From 03:00PM Santimami/San Mamés station will be closed

On Wednesday 21 May, the Europa League Final between Tottenham and Manchester United will be held at San Mamés at 21:00. On the occasion of this important sporting event, Metro Bilbao will offer a special service until 03:00 in the morning.&nbsp;

After the end of the match, whether in normal time or in the event of extra time or penalties, the frequency of trains will be increased to facilitate mobility.&nbsp;

For security reasons on 21 May,&nbsp;trains will not stop at Santimami/San Mamés station from 15:00. If your origin or destination is this station, use the metro stations Indautxu, Moyua or Deustu as alternative.&nbsp;

We would also like to inform you that there may be occasional closures of access points in order to safely manage possible crowds.&nbsp;
